Dear Friends: “Faith illumines life and society” - Pope Francis: Through your support of the Catholic Ministries Appeal we are able to pass on the treasures of Faith to a new generation of Jesus’ disciples. Teaching religion and sharing the Faith with young people – this is Jesus’ message – to proclaim the word of God. We do that by living the message every day. There is something so rich in spreading our Faith – you want to go out and share it with other people. That’s the Apostolic message.” Please consider donating to the Appeal and making a difference in the lives of our young people. Thank you! Maggie Martin, Director of Religious Education. St. John of God, Central Islip.

Parent meetings: Mary Ellen Barrett, columnist for the Long Island Catholic and mother of eight, recently gave a presentation on engaging children in the faith for our Level 1 parents. Seminarian Paul Clores gave a presentation on Scripture and Tradition, including the practice of Lectio Divina, during our a Level 1 parent meeting. We also had a family from OLQA speak about our Catholic School.
Reconciliation services: Our Level 4 and 5 families were invited to the Sacrament of Reconciliation during their grade-level services this month. All in attendance were given the opportunity to receive the Sacrament. We had a great turn-out.
Help wanted: Can you give back? Are you looking for a way to serve our community? We are always looking for parishioners to help teach our young people about the faith. You don’t have to be a theologian —simply have a desire to share the faith and be willing to relate it to our youth. Can’t make a weekly commitment? Perhaps you can be a part of our substitute catechist group! Right now, we are in need of a Level 4 and a Level 8 catechist. If you are interested, please contact Michelle at 631.878.0009. ext. 5 or via email at email@example.com.
Join us for our Adult Faith Formation course on the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Part 1 will be on Thursdays at 7 p.m. Next meeting is March 22 in the upper room of the Red Barn with Fr. John Sureau. For more information and to register, contact Paul Clores at pclores@SJEcm.org or call 631.878.0009 x113.
Do we have your email address? The Office of Faith Formation is moving to email notifications. If you have not yet given us your email address, please do so as soon as possible. When possible, we also send closing announcements via email, so be sure to provide us with your email to receive these notices.
